The spooks keep busy. But more people are now aware of their plots. Even back in 1605 there were people who realised that the Gunpowder Plot was an inside job using double agents.
I think we've always had a secret ruling elite that'll use any ulterior motives to keep it that way [my grandmother told me about the ruling 1% but if I'm honest it just fostered an us vs. them attitude & not some "awakening" :]
